As a first-year student, finding a community of students who will help you develop as a person, is crucial aspect of your college experience. I understood this, and began searching for students who shared some of my values, such as the betterment of the world,. For ourselves and the generations that come after us.
My journey began as a team member of on the marketing team. I was taught methods to strategize marketing efforts based on our market, and we created ways to reach the majority of our campus. We deciphered the data we collected and were able to understand that issue based marketing was the way to go.
When I saw the amount of people we had attend our events, I felt a sense of pride that I had helped make this happen. It was a “wow” moment. From then on, my love for marketing has continued to grow. It has expanded so much that I am a team leader this semester!
Over winter break, I was able to attend the Winter National Conference in Dallas, Texas. I went as the only general member from AIESEC Appalachian.
This was so I could gain more knowledge of what the organization was doing and what I should be contributing to achieve our goals. From this experience, I gained a better understanding of AIESEC, who we are, what we do, why we do what we do, and how we make it all happen. I made many connections with students from other local committees within the marketing track to collaborate with, throughout the year.
In a single semester I have grown in terms of global knowledge, networking, and leadership,. All that I have obtained is functional aspects that will allow me to truly make a difference in the world. I now believe that peace and fulfillment can take place, and I expect it to. I understand that it is easy to put aside differences if we all strive for the same ultimate goal. I also believe that I am a useful participant in making this amazing thing called PEACE happen. When thinking back to how I have made progress within myself, I am excited to see where I will be with my skills towards the end of my journey with AIESEC. Possibly the skills will assist me to work with the international companies, or even the UN. Who knows. All I know is that my options are now unlimited with just the short amount of time that I have been a member.
